The Prime Minister inaugurated the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant |
Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated Virtual Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2 (K-2) from Islamabad.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he said, "I am happy that the 1,100-megawatt nuclear power plant will not only generate electricity but also clean energy."
This is very important for us because our country is one of the 10 countries in the world that are most affected by climate change, 10 countries including Pakistan are most at risk from global warming and the reason is that our Glaciers supply 80% of Pakistan's rivers.
However, as global temperatures rise and glaciers melt, the danger is that if we don't stop it, our future generations will have a huge water problem because our country, our agriculture, our food security. Depends on river water.
According to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, K-2 is a state-of-the-art third generation plant with better safety systems, especially for internal and external accidents prevention and emergency response.
The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission operates six nuclear power plants, two in Karachi and four at Chashma in Mianwali District
